Some roads closed in Greece due to flooding along the shoreline

Winds from the east and northeast brought waves of water onto the south shore of Lake Ontario and caused flooding in parts of the Town of Greece on Tuesday.

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo on Tuesday issued a State of Emergency due to flooding along Lake Ontario.

She says the State of Emergency is in effect for the entirety of the Monroe County shoreline inland to Lake Ontario Parkway, Lakeshore Boulevard, and Lake Road. Dinolfo says the order provides the ability for the County and local municipalities to initiate and maintain road closures as conditions warrant.

A previous State of Emergency order for boat traffic on various waterways remains in place.

On Facebook,Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich said that the town is seeing flooding on many roadways around the lakefront.

He says the town is putting in place additional personnel to help residents out; members of the International Joint Commission, which helps oversee regulation of the Great Lakes, are expected to tour parts of the area Monday afternoon.

Much of Edgemere Drive in Greece had to be shut down. As of late Tuesday afternoon, Police Chief Patrick Phelan said that the only section of Edgemere that was open is from Long Pond to Island Cottage. The rest of Edgemere Drive is closed.

Lake Ontario levels have similar to the situation that caused the damaging flooding in 2017.
