The Ontario County public health department announced a total of three confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday.

One case was acquired through travel. The two others were cases of community acquired, the department said.

One of the cases was also a teenage student at the Canandaigua Middle School.

"None of us should find this news surprising," Canandaigua City School District Superintendent Jamie Farr said in a statement. "Everyone in our own beloved community, might have or will have, at some point, an exposure to COVID-19."

The student and family were under quarantine and being monitored by the health department. Officials said the teen was recovering.

"I did spend a little time on the phone with the family,"Farr said. "They all remain in great spirits, and the student with the confirmed case is feeling much better and is nearly fully returned to good health.

The health department said staff was in the processes of completing contact investigations of both community-acquired cases.

Officials said that all community members and families of the Canandaigua School district should be alert to COVID-19 symptoms such as cough, fever and shortness of breath.
