Livingston County has its first case of coronavirus

The Livingston County Department of Health has announced the first case of novel coronavirus – or COVID-19 in that county.

According to Jennifer Rodriguez, Livingston County Public Health Director, the patient is a male in his 80s who resides in Geneseo.

She says the man sought treatment at a hospital in Monroe County on March 17, where he was tested for COVID-19 and kept overnight with symptoms. He was released from the hospital and is currently at his home under mandatory quarantine.

The Livingston County Department of Health was notified of this positive case on March 19.

Rodriguez said that, “Our department will immediately commence outreach to identify close contacts and potential exposure areas per prescribed New York State regulations.”

Livingston County Administrator Ian Coyle said, “We have planned for the inevitable – a positive case – and we anticipate more positive cases as testing capacity increases. We will follow all outreach protocols to the public and press as updates materialize. We have an important request of our residents and health care community – it is imperative that healthcare providers and patients contact the local health department in the county in which the patient resides once they are tested for COVID-19 to ensure public health and safety."
