Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren is looking for ways to attract more people downtown, and on Thursday she revealed that an indoor water park is one idea she's looking at. She made the comments on our midday talk show, Connections with Evan Dawson.
Warren was talking about ways to get people to spend more time at downtown attractions, especially when there are some really impressive ones, like the Strong museum, but nothing else right nearby.
In discussing the city's plans to fill in a portion of the Inner Loop, Warren noted that creates about eight acres of land that can be developed. And she suggests that maybe the city could help a private developer put up a water park and hotel in that area.
"I think it would be great to go right behind the Strong museum and we'll reach out to them to see what they think about that, I think that creates opportunities that are not readily available at this point in time."
Warren indicated she may be already talking to private developers about the possibility, but wouldn't be more specific at this time.
