Connections: Exploring the intersection of jazz and social justice

How can music be used to make social commentary? Wall Street Journal jazz critic Larry Blumenfeld is in Upstate New York to share his workwith college students. His writing and research center on the intersection of jazz and social justice.

He joins us for the hour to discuss a range of issues, including “jazz in troubled times.” Our guests:

  • Larry Blumenfeld, cultural journalist and jazz critic for the Wall Street Journal
  • Bob Sneider, associate professor of jazz studies and contemporary media at the Eastman School of Music
  • Eric Grode, director of the Goldring Arts Journalism Program at the Newhouse School at Syracuse University

Evan Dawson is the host of "Connections with Evan Dawson." He joined WXXI in January 2014 after working at 13WHAM-TV, where he served as morning news anchor. He was hired as a reporter for 13WHAM-TV in 2003 before being promoted to anchor in 2007.
Megan Mack is the executive producer of "Connections with Evan Dawson" and live/televised engagement programming.
