Schumer says he's been assured Chapter 11 process won't affect Rochester jobs

Senator Chuck Schumer says he’s received assurances by the CEO of Windstream that no jobs at their Rochester operations will be impacted by the company’s recent Chapter 11 filing.

The New York Democrat says he spoke with Windstream leader Tony Thomas who told the senator that none of the 700 or so jobs in Rochester would be affected by the bankruptcy process.

Schumer says Windstream also told him that Windstream’s customers in the Rochester area will not be affected by the Chapter 11 filing. That is something that a Windstream spokesman also told WXXI News last week.

Windstream filed for Chapter 11 after it lost a court battle  regarding the spinoff of some of the company’s assets.

The company said last week that it was confident that after the reorganization is complete, it will be even better positioned to invest in its business.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
