An effort to build a new Intensive Care Unit at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua is getting a big boost.
The Sands family and Constellation Brands are pledging $4 million to go toward construction of the ICU. It is the lead gift of a new capital campaign that will fund the overall $11 million project.
Thompson currently has a 7-bed ICU. When completed in 2020, the hospital’s new ICU will encompass 12 beds and be staffed by full-time doctors specially trained in the care and management of critical care patients.
Thompson officials expect they will be able to care for an estimated 250 to 300 additional patients per year in the new ICU, which will eliminated the need to transfer patients to Rochester due to limited capacity.
Thompson Health is part of UR Medicine.
