The Pittsford Central School District will get a new superintendent in December.
Superintendent Michael Pero has announced that he plans to retire effective Dec. 1. And the Pittsford school board has appointed Shana Cutaia, the district's director of student services, as his successor.
Pero will stay on through January as a deputy superintendent to help with the transition.
"The board is confident that Ms. Cutaia is someone we know and trust to lead the district, uphold its values, and continue putting students first,” school board President Robin Scott said in a news release.

Pero joined the district in 1994, starting as a health teacher at Pittsford Middle School. He went on to become assistant principal of that school, principal of Barker Road Middle School, and assistant superintendent for human resources before being appointed superintendent in 2013.
Cutaia has been with the district since 2003, starting as a social studies teacher at Barker Road Middle School. She left to serve as assistant principal at the Brighton school district's Twelve Corners Middle School, but came back to Pittsford in 2014 to become principal of Barker Road Middle School. She was appointed to her current position in 2021.
She lives in Pittsford with her husband and their two daughters.
