Rochester Police have a person in custody in connection with an incident on Hague St. Tuesday where an RPD officer was shot and injured.
Chief Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan said late Tuesday afternoon that the officer, who has not been identified, was treated at the hospital and released.
It happened just before 8 a.m. when police said the suspect, James Hunter, 54, was trying to break into a house. Officials said that when an officer responded, multiple shots were fired and the officer was struck at least once in the upper body.
Ifficials said that police did return gunfire, but Hunter was not struck.

Hunter is being held on an assault charge in connection with a 2019 incident where he allegedly injured a police officer with a car as Hunter was trying to get away from a traffic stop.
Charges regarding Tuesday's incident are pending. Hunter is described as a four-time convicted felon who has been in and out of prison since 1982.
Capt. Frank Umbrino said that Hunter was captured with the help of a police dog from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. He was found in a nearby backyard. Umbrino said that Hunter was bitten by the dog, but was not seriously injured.
RPD Chief Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan said that the injured officer is, "Definitely lucky or blessed, however you look at it, but certainly I’m really happy that he’s not more seriously injured. I’m just grateful for that.”
