Two adults charged after recent drowning involving a 6-year-old girl

Spectrum News

Greece Police have charged two people in connection with the recent drowning of a 6-year-old girl in the Erie Canal.

On Sunday, Police Chief Patrick Phelan announced that 25-year-old Laura McCasland of Texas and 23-year-old Tyler Kanaley of California have already been charged with criminal possession of marijuana, and Phelan says a charge of endangering the welfare of a child is pending.

Kanaley is the cousin of Alliyah Williams, who was at Henpeck Park on Thursday when the girl, Alliyah Williams fell into the canal when she went to grab her sandals.

Phelan says she was not being supervised at the time. Williams was at the park with her 11-year-old sister and the two adults.

Police say that McCasland and Kanaley had smoked pot earlier that day. Authorities also say that marijuana was found in the vehicle the two had driven to the park, and a later search of the house where they were staying uncovered another 31 pounds of marijuana.

Both were ordered held on bail or bond.
