Hundreds Come Out to Support I-Square in Wake of Political Dispute

i-square.us

Several hundred residents came out to I-Square's restaurants last night to show their support for the Irondequoit project.  I-Square has been in the middle of a political dispute that started last weekend.

County Republican Chairman Bill Reilich had said the mixed use project was failing, and defaulting on its tax agreement with COMIDA, the county’s industrial development agency.

Developers Mike and Wendy Nolan dispute that.  They say they have met the terms of their contract.

The Nolans said they plan to sue Reilich over his comments.

Irondequoit resident Peter Iglinski, a former WXXI News director, started a social media campaign to get people to come out to I-Square last night to demonstrate support for the Nolans.

"The Nolans are just two of the hardest-working and most decent people I know. You go there anytime; you go early in the morning, you go late at night, and you find at least one Nolan there. They work hard and they deserved better than to be treated like collateral damage."

Iglinski said there were people at I-Square last night not just from Irondequoit, but Brighton, Greece and the city.

Wendy Nolan told him it was their busiest Tuesday and one of I-Square's top three nights since it opened in 2013.
