Rochester businessman and philanthropist Burt August has died at the age of 100. He passed away March 18th.
August was instrumental in the founding of Monro Muffler Brake in the 1960s. He started out in the clothing industry with other members of his family, and he also works for Michaels-Stern for more than 30 years.
Burt August's role in Rochester's once-prominent clothing industry is included in a recent WXXI documentary about the local garment industry called Tailor Made.
Burt August retired from his role as senior vice president of Monro Muffler in the 1980s, and retired from its board of directors in 2002.
He was a major supporter of a number of local organizations including the Boy Scouts, the United Way, Hillside Family of Agencies, Al Sigl Community of Agencies, RIT and many others.
