The New York State Public Service Commission says it will look into what it calls a “higher-than-usual” number of utility poles that were damaged as a result of the wind storm this week in the RG&E service territory.
Those winds, topping 60 mph at times, left tens of thousands without power, and as of late Friday afternoon, there were around 600 customers in Monroe County without electricity.
The PSC says it’s estimated that more than 150 poles were damaged in the storm, which the agency says is a tiny fraction of the quarter-million utility poles throughout RG&E’s service territory. But in any case, the PSC says it will conduct a full and complete investigation to determine what went wrong and whether the utility should be held accountable.
Meantime the Red Cross continued operation Friday night of a shelter at the David Gantt Center at 700 North Street for people who still don’t have power.
