Connections: SAFE Act

Is the SAFE Act too easily circumvented? Ben Piatt, a father of two young children, is like thousands of New Yorkers. He owns firearms, and he did not want to register his assault rifle. He says his friends simply ignored the registration deadline, but he decided to "reconfigure" his assault rifle by essentially changing one small piece of plastic. The firearm is now compliant under the law. He'll explain in more detail how gun owners are circumventing this legislation. His concern is that the law has not achieved much, while alienating gun owners. But New Yorkers Against Gun Violence supports the law, saying any registration is better than no registration. Leah Barrett from the organization joins us along with Ben Piatt.
