Volunteers of America Celebrating 119 Years With Two Projects

Alex Crichton

Volunteers of America is celebrating its 119th anniversary, 114 years in Rochester, by launching two new projects -- one for children and one for seniors.

In partnership with the Rochester Police and Fire Departments, Camp HEROES will allow 44 at- risk youth attend a free summer camp staffed by volunteer police and firefighters.

Police Chief Mike Ciminelli says this partnership with VOA is a tremendous opportunity for police and fire personnel to interact with children.

The VOA's second project is a new 60-unit affordable housing complex in Webster for seniors through a partnership with Conifer Realty.

Groundbreaking is expected in May.

VOA CEO JaAnne Ryan says they're excited to be able to step up and serve.

She says they have the ability to scan the horizon, see where the need is, and go.
