Two Monroe Community College alumni returned to the school on Monday to say they will be making a $4 million donation as part of a $50 million campaign to increase the number of scholarships available to MCC students.
Robin and Timothy Wentworth, now living in St. Louis, formerly of Rochester, were 1980 graduates of MCC. The gift from the Wentworths is the largest in the college’s history and will help provide full scholarships to 100 MCC students each year.
The gift exceeds the Wentworths’ previous gift of $2.25 million. MCC plans to name its arts building in their honor.
The Monroe Community College Foundation has already raised $39.5 million toward the $50 million campaign.
MCC President Anne Kress says that a “$50 million campaign is one of the largest for a community college and is ambitious,” and she says that alumni “know firsthand the incredible futures that result when we work together to invest in our students.”
The campaign, called Every Bright Future Needs a Strong Foundation, looks to ensure all students have access to the scholarship support they need to earn a degree or certificate at MCC.
The Wentworths will serve at the campaign’s honorary chairs. Timothy Wentworh is president and CEO of Express Scripts, a pharmacy benefit management company which is also a Fortune 100 company.
