President signs bill to rename Fairport post office after Louise & Bob Slaughter

Rep. Joe Morelle/Twitter

President Donald Trump has signed legislation that will dedicate a Fairport post office in honor of the late Louise and Bob Slaughter.

Word of the signing came Thursday from Congressman Joe Morelle, and New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.

Rep. Louise Slaughter died in March of last year, after serving for more than 30 years in Congress.  Bob Slaughter died in 2014.

Morelle, who was elected to fill that 25th Congressional District seat last year, said that Louise Slaughter, “was a trailblazer who exemplified the very essence of what public service is all about.”

Robin Slaughter Minerva, daughter of Louise and Bob Slaughter, said that "For more than 55 years, our parents made Fairport their home, and from their first days here, they were engaged in the community. They were both students of history and would be honored to have this United States Post Office named in their honor.”

The facility to be renamed in Louise and Bob Slaughter’s honor is located at 770 Ayrault Rd in Fairport. Currently a carrier annex, the facility will be undergoing renovations over the next year to become a full retail post office.
