Students have tested positive for COVID-19 at Rochester universities.

The University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology have each reported their first two cases of COVID-19 in students and staff.

The University of Rochester said in a web post on Sunday that one staff member and one student had reported positive results of COVID-19 tests.

“Neither the employee nor the student remains on campus,” the university said.

On Monday, the Rochester Institute of Technology said two students had tested positive.

They had both “been in isolation for some time while awaiting test results and will continue to be isolated until fully recovered,” the school said.

One of the students was quarantined on campus, and the other “in the greater Rochester community,” RIT said.

Both students’ conditions were improving, according to the university.

UR and RIT, like many schools across the U.S., had already switched to online or other forms of remote instruction for the rest of the school year.

“There will be NO in-person, face-to-face classes for the remainder of the semester,” RIT said in an emailed statement.

At last count, Monroe County had 80 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
