Connections: Discussing the 2019 Rochester Music Hall of Fame inductees

The Rochester Music Hall of Fame recently announced its 2019 class. This year’s inductees include Emmy-winning composer Jack Allocco, Beach Boys founding member Al Jardine, and folk singer Christine Lavin. The Hall also has a new home at 25 Gibbs Street, which will host events and educational programs throughout the year.

The announcement of this year’s inductees came with pushback from some local music critics, who say the Hall’s board members aren’t considering key players in Rochester’s music scene, and instead, choosing to honor big names with tenuous connections to Rochester. This hour, we discuss how inductees are selected, how the Hall of Fame has evolved throughout the years, and what it means to honor Rochester’s music scene. In studio:

  • Jack Whittier, president of the board of directors for the Rochester Music Hall of Fame
  • Tracy Kroft, vice president of the board of directors for the Rochester Music Hall of Fame
  • Jerry Falzone, board member for the Rochester Music Hall of Fame
  • Frank De Blase, music critic for CITY Newspaper
  • Chuck Campbell, member of the Campbell Brothers (Class of 2018)
  • Phil Campbell, member of the Campbell Brothers (Class of 2018)
