Officials with the Rochester Catholic Diocese say the just-ended 2014-15 Catholic Ministries Appeal set a new record for contributions. It raised just over $5.6 million, topping the previous record set last year by $100,000.
But the amount raised did fall a little short of the goal of $5.99 million which was announced last September.
Bishop Salvatore Matano says he is deeply grateful to everyone who supported the appeal, which helps fund ministries for more than 340,000 Catholics and others in the 12-county diocese.
The programs benefiting from the appeal include education, helping migrant farm families, supporting the priesthood, and helping the ministries run by Catholic Charities.
This was the 8th straight year the Appeal has raised more than $5 million.
