A Rochester man and a woman from Fayettville, NY finished with the fastest times at the Highland Hospital Lilac Run 10K at the Lilac Festival on Sunday morning.

26 year old Kiplangat Tisia finished the race in 29:56, taking the top spot in the men’s category and setting the fastest time of the more than 1,000 runners. Tisia is originally from Kenya and now lives in Rochester.

25 year old Hannah Davidson delivered the fastest time in the women’s category at 34:57.

More than 900 runners took part in the Lilac 5k race.

The 10-day Lilac Festival wraps up Sunday night. It’s Rochester’s oldest festival, now in its 117th year.

The festival takes place in Highland Park, where many of the 1,200 lilac plants were at their peak this week.

While crowd estimates are still pending, organizers say they usually see about 500,000 visitors over the length of the festival.

Among the changes that spokesperson Randi Minetor says seemed to work well this year, moving vendors to the top of the hill, and moving the art show up the hill to Reservoir Street.

There was also a new home show, Brew Fest and wine and chocolate tastings  this year, and  those should be back next year.

In 2016, the dates for the Lilac Festival are  May 6th-15th.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
