Goodwill Store to Open in Greece

A Goodwill store is coming to north Greece in the spring.

The popular thrift store chain will occupy the old Wegmans store on Dewey Avenue and Britton Road.

The President and CEO of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes Gidget Hopf says Greece is a prime location.

"It’s a great location. [it’s] an area that had been really neglected and left vacant for a long time. That whole area is becoming very vibrant again so it's exciting to become part of that."

Hopf says each new location they open generates economic opportunity.

"Everything that gets donated gets converted into a job or another opportunity program or service. So, donate stuff, create jobs and opportunities."

The new store is projected to create 40 full and part-time jobs. The nonprofit trains and employs people with developmental disabilities.

Hopf says they are now accepting gently used clothes, shoes, electronics and house ware at their new Fetzner Road Donation Center. She says they are excited.

“But for our customers who love to shop our stores, and for people who love to get rid of the old stuff and really help to provide a second life to the items they can no longer use."

Goodwill has opened 10 stores and created over 500 jobs in the Greater Rochester area over the past 20 years. The Dewey location is its 11th retail shop.

The grand opening is slated for April.
