DOT crews working on 390 in Livingston County felt too many drivers were going too fast in work zones.
They turned to the Sheriff for protection.
Sheriff Tom Dougherty says one worker was struck by a cone tossed into the air by a driver flying by.
As of Monday, he put deputies in work zones, watching as you pass through.
The Sheriff says they'll be on the lookout for speeders, those using handheld phones, and tailgaters.
