Rochester General Health System and United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia have confirmed their intention to affiliate. The Genesee County hospital will become a fully integrated affiliate of RGHS.
The CEO of United Memorial, Mark Schoell, says changes in the health care system will continue to negatively impact independent rural health care providers, and he says this affiliation will strengthen the future of health care in Genesee County. He says it will help United Memorial expand the kinds of services it can provide.
The CEO of Rochester General, Mark Clement, also says the affiliation will help provide more services to people in that region and he says United Memorial will serve as the western hub for all of RGHS' services.
Clement tells WXXI News, he does not anticipate any staffing reductions as a result of the affiliation, in fact he says they will likely add staff to support the expanded services.
The affiliation is expected to take three to six months to complete.
