There is another candidate for the 131st New York state Assembly seat, now held by Brian Kolb.
Jeff Shipley, who is the President and CEO of the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce is running for the Republican nomination. Manchester Town Supervisor Jeff Gallahan recently also announced his intention to also run for the seat.
The seat will be open next year since longtime Assemblyman Brian Kolb announced recently he will not be running for re-election this November. Kolb said that after 20 years in the Assembly he felt it was time to move on to something else. Kolb resigned from the Minority Leader position in January after he crashed his state-issued car in Victor and was charged with DWI.
The 131st NY Assembly district covers all of Ontario County and the northern part of Seneca County.
In his press release about running for the seat, Shipley criticized Governor Andrew Cuomo and “New York City progressives,” contending that they have an agenda, “that’s hurt our economy and emboldened illegal immigrants and dangerous criminals at the expense of hardworking, law-abiding families.”
Shipley also criticized recent farmworker labor laws and bail reform.
