Some area lawmakers are weighing in on the mass shootings in Texas and Ohio that happened over the weekend.
Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a statement saying that, "In the last 24 hours, this nation witnessed two mass shootings that left 29 people dead. Who was protecting the right of those 29 people to live their lives in peace? Where is the outrage? Our country is under attack from within, and continuing to ignore what is happening around us will only lead to more bloodshed and more tragedy -- all of it preventable.
"This insanity must stop and it must stop now. Those who are unwilling to do anything about it are complicit. I am sick of the excuses. I don't want to hear 'we can't' -- because we know we can, and you just 'don't'," Cuomo ssaid.
Congressman Joe Morelle, a Democrat from Irondeqoit who represents the 25th district, said on Facebook:
"My heart breaks for Ohio, for El Paso, and for every community that has been touched by this never-ending string of gun violence. How many more innocent families must be destroyed before our nation takes action to stop this madness? My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and their loved ones. I remain committed to taking action to address this crisis and end this terror that looms over our country."
