Gift ideas for this year's Purple Box campaign

Alternatives For Battered Women has kicked off its "Purple Box Campaign," in conjunction with the Rochester Police Department.

Boxes will be placed at several locations, including the Public Safety Building and City Hall downtown, and people can donate a gift or toy for a child.

Jaime Saunders is CEO at ABW.

She says 70 percent of domestic violence incidents are witnessed by children.
And the seven in ten children who stay at ABW shelters are newborns to eight years old, and the campaign is geared toward that age group.

She says the Purple Box Campaign is more than a toy drive.

Saunders says it's about giving a gift of childhood, giving a gift of normalcy to families in trauma.
It's a way the community can stand up and show support for families to make them feel visible again.
