The local race production company YellowJacket Racing has acquired ownership of the annual Rochester Marathon. The company is buying the event from the Arthritis Foundation of Upstate New York for an undisclosed amount.
The event includes a marathon, a half-marathon and a relay and this year it will be held on September 21.
Officials with YellowJacket Racing say they are committed to continue operating the marathon as a fundraiser for local charities. Groups will be able to adopt sections of the race and share in the proceeds.
The marathon is now in its tenth year. Last year, there were more than 600 finishers for the marathon, 2000 for the half-marathon and 186 relay teams.
