The Rochester Rhinos have earned their first USL title since the league’s inception in 2011. The Rhinos defeated the LA Galaxy, 2 to 1 in overtime Friday night at Sahlen Stadium.
Rookie forward Asani Samuels scored two set-piece goals – an equalizer in second-half stoppage time and the game-winner in the 112th minute –Samuels was named the match MVP.
The Rhinos capped off a historic season for Rochester, which went unbeaten at Sahlen’s Stadium this year, and had just one loss overall for the season.
It was the first championship title for the Rhinos in 14 years.
Rochester finished the season with a record of 20-1-10.
