Wayne County Officials Hope To Keep Electromark From Leaving

Wayne County is expected to take a substantial economic hit with a number of jobs leaving the adjacent communities of Wolcott and Butler.

Most recently, officials learned that the Electromark facility in Wolcott will be closing its doors in December of next year, taking about 90 jobs with it. Those operations are being relocated to Mexico.

Electromark is owned by a Milwaukee based international company, the Brady Corporation. The executive director of Wayne County Economic Development, Peg Churchill, says that local officials are still hoping to convince that company to stay in the area.

"We’re hoping that with the economic team that we have here working on it in the county as well as hopefully some state folks, that we will be able to reverse their decision.”

Churchill says the news of the 90 layoffs comes on top of the recent news that the state will close a prison in Butler next year which will impact about 130 jobs.
