Voters approve projects in East Irondequoit, Fairport and Phelps-Clifton Springs

Voters approved capital improvement projects by wide margins in the East Irondequoit, Fairport and Phelps-Clifton Springs school districts on Tuesday.

In Fairport, the $56.7 million plan includes putting in secure entrances at each building and other safety improvement; infrastructure and boiler replacements; upgrades in technology and science classrooms; cafeteria and gym renovations at Fairport High School; and a reconfigured bus loop at Jefferson Avenue School.

Nearly 78% of the Fairport project is being paid for with state aid, and the expected impact on taxpayers is estimated at about $45 per year.

In East Irondequoit, the nearly $30 million project includes infrastructure improvements to the district’s buildings, classroom reconstruction and kitchen improvements.

The state is paying just over 82% of the project cost. Other costs are being paid for through borrowing and a capital reserve fund.

In the Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District, voters also easily passed a $15.6 million capital project that addresses a variety of facility needs at Midlakes schools. State aid will pay for about 78% of the project with the rest coming from a capital reserve fund.
