Enrollment is up in New York’s state health insurance marketplace compared to this time last year.
The state health department called this year’s enrollment “robust,” saying more than 50 thousand New Yorkers have signed up for a new plan.
Those plans are offered through a program called New York State of Health, which offers health coverage for New Yorkers who don’t get insurance through their work or through Medicare.
In a statement, the department said part of the reason for increased enrollment is that it’s streamlined the signup process.
New Yorkers have until Dec. 15 to enroll in a plan that starts coverage Jan. 1.
The health department is holding two informational sessions in Rochester before the deadline to answer questions about enrolling in plans through the state’s marketplace.
