Former GM facility in Honeoye Falls to get more tenants

Officials in Honeoye Falls are hoping the re-use of a former large industrial complex will lead to increased economic activity in that village.

The two large buildings used to be occupied by the General Motors fuel cell operation, which left the area several years ago. Last fall, it was announced that Han-Tek, a Victor-based company that specializes in things like overhead cranes and robotics, would be expanding into that formerly vacant facility.

And this week, Imagine Monroe, the county’s economic development agency, approved incentives that will help other tenants move in there also, including a precision machining and fabrication company, called McQuillen and its affiliated company, Trison Business Solutions.

Village Mayor Rick Milne says more than 100 people will likely be working in those two buildings, and that helps fill a void after GM left Honeoye Falls.

“To  have more people walking around in the village, using our current local businesses and supplementing them, that’s going to be fantastic; maybe a few people will move into the village. And we do know that both businesses are going to be hiring additional people."

Milne is pleased to see more small businesses move  into Honeoye Falls.

It’s really positive. I think most municipalities would rather see multiple, small to medium sized businesses coming in addition to large businesses, but it’s the small businesses that really fuel your economy,” Milne said.
