FleetFeet & YellowJacket Racing kick off the new year with a Donut Mile

FleetFeet/YellowJacket Racing

Organizers of a New Year’s Day race in Rochester say a sense of humor is required as well as an appetite.

The Donut Mile is sponsored by FleetFeet and YellowJacket Racing

Ellen Brenner is the owner of YellowJacket and breaks down how the race goes.

"I literally say "ready, set, eat" instead of "ready, set, go." Everyone will eat their donut. And you have to finish your donut, and we're very good about making sure that you eat the entire donut safely."

Participants will be required to eat one donut every quarter mile in order to complete the Donut Mile. The course goes out and back on Norris Drive in Cobbs Hill Park with three donut eating stations.

Brenner says the unique rules of the race make it an even playing field.

"What is surprising the most to us is that you may be an extremely fast runner, however if you can’t eat, or eat quickly, than you - it’s a complete equalizer."

The race kicks off at 11am at Riley Lodge in Cobbs Hill Park, and currently has over 180 registrants.

Glazed donuts are provided by Donuts Delite.
