First hour: "End the R Word" campaign grows
Second hour: Inside the history of Rochester's clothing industry
Rochester has become one of the largest regions in the country to participate in the national "Spread the Word to End the Word" day. It's all about the so-called "r word:" "retard" or "retarded." The Golisano Foundation has helped launch the local effort, and we'll talk to various people about the impact of using a word that has become so hurtful to so many. In studio:
Ann Costello, director of the Golisano Foundation
Cori Piels, inclusion specialist at Rochester AmeriCorps
Steve Salluzzo, president of Bishop Kearney High School
In our second hour: We go inside the history of the garment industry in Rochester as we preview the new documentary, Tailor Made. The film will air Monday night on WXXI-TV, but first, we'll sit down with some of the people who help tell the story in the film. From the ways that the garment industry pioneered mass production, to the impact of immigration, to the high end of fashion with Hickey Freeman, we'll get an education in the clothing business. In studio:
- John Diacatos, vice president of manufacturing for Hickey Freeman
- Christine Ridarsky, Rochester city historian
- Arnie Roberti, president of operations for Adrian Jules
