The West Irondequoit School District has released statements in connection with the death of a 14 year old student who was struck by a car two weeks ago.
Michael Lynch was struck while crossing Cooper Road. The Irondequoit High School freshman was walking to school when the accident happened.
The school district released this statement on Friday:
“On behalf of our staff and students, and all who knew Michael, we will remember him as a talented and caring young man. We will all miss his presence in our lives.
We know that this loss is felt deeply in our community. When we return to school, we will have counselors available to our staff and students as long as they are needed. Our thoughts continue to be with Michael’s family as we support each other.”
The district also shared a note from Michael’s family:
“It is with heavy hearts that we must inform you that Michael Patrick Lynch passed away peacefully this afternoon in the arms of his mother, father and brother.
Our family's faith has been tested but we remain steadfast in the hope of the Resurrection. While we cannot make sense of this terrible tragedy, we trust God's love surrounds us. We know that Michael will live on in the memories of his family, friends and those who loved him.
Michael loved playing Magic the Gathering, was passionate about theatre and making music. Mostly he loved spending time with his family and friends spreading his kindness and love wherever he went. Michael brought laughter, love and joy from the day he was born. He will always be cherished by his family.
We thank the community for the outpouring of love and support. We cherish your thoughts and prayers and will continue to need them in the days and months ahead."
A vigil for Michael was held Thursday evening at I-Square.
