Monroe County legislators on Tuesday night approved a near $1 billion budget plan for next year, including a raise for Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn.
O’Flynn is now in his fourth, four-year term, and now earns $136,700. His last pay raise was in 2011. The legislature approved a recommendation from a compensation commission which will see O’Flynn getting a boost to just over $149,000. If he was re-elected when his term ends, he would get a pay hike every year until topping out at $174,000.
But a new sheriff would revert to a $129,000 salary and get annual increases over 12 years before topping out at $174,000.
The county budget was approved along party lines in the Republican-majority legislature.
The spending plan holds property taxes flat and reduces overall spending by $5 million. It was the final budget proposed by County Executive Maggie Brooks who is term-limited after 12 years in office.
