One Person Dead After Amtrak Train Collides With Car In Chili

CHILI, N.Y. (WXXI News & AP) A local man has been killed after the car he was driving was struck by an Amtrak train at a railroad crossing in Chili.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say the victim ignored a crossing gate in the suburb of Chili, drove around the gate, and his vehicle was hit by a train just before 6 a.m. Monday. Deputies say the man, believed to be in his 20s, was killed instantly. 

Amtrak officials say none of the 21 passengers or four crew members on the train from Niagara Falls to New York City were injured. 

Investigators say the victim was familiar with the area. It's believed he was heading to work. 

Amtrak officials are at the scene investigating.   The train was expected to resume its trip Monday morning.
