Connections: Businesses as Consumer Destinations; Creating Low-cost Prosthetics

We start off the hour talking about small business, specifically the fact that many small business owners don’t have the time to think about how their company fits into their community. We talk with Larry Francer, associate director of preservation for the Landmark Society of Western New York, the organization is hosting an event called “Destination Main Street” on October 22. The goal is to show how small businesses can come together in communities to create consumer destinations.

Then we talk with John Shaw, the founder of the E-nable Group. For those that need a prosthetic, the cost can be in the tens of thousands. Shaw believes that prosthetics can be made for $50. The group is a pool of volunteer creators that use 3D printing to construct the prosthetics for kids and families.
