Storms Bring Power Outages & Damage

TWC News

Severe thunderstorms moved through Western NY and the Finger Lakes late Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Several thousand RG&E customers were out of power late in the afternoon, many in parts of Ontario and Monroe Counties. Most were back on line by Wednesday morning.

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect in Monroe, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming Counties until early Thursday morning.

There was also an incident in Ontario County  that took 2 lives. Two people were killed when a tree fell onto a vehicle on County Road 6, in the Town of Phelps.

Deputies say that a 2004 Kia Optima was traveling south on County Road 6 when a tree fell onto the vehicle, crushing its roof.

Authorities say it appears heavy windy and storm conditions caused the tree to fall. Both people inside the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

They are from out of state. Their names were not being released until family could be notified.
