Rochester firefighters responded to the Sister Cities Bridge this morning at 7:45 for a report of a man who had fallen into the river.
When they arrived, firefighters found a man clinging to the wall below the bridge with only his head above water. He was conscious.
According to information provided to WXXI from the Rochester Fire Department, the man had apparently fallen into the river at the Main Street bridge. The current carried him down river to the Sister Cities bridge. That's where he grabbed onto the wall beneath the west side of the bridge.
Firefighters from the Swift Water Rescue Team lowered a ladder from the bridge into the water to reach the victim and he was removed from the cold water safely.
Rural Metro Ambulance took the man to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.
