Monroe County deputies continue to investigate an incident that shut down a portion of 390 for several hours in Gates on Thursday.
A tractor trailer driver believes that a bullet hit his truck. Corporal John Helfer says at around 9:30 a.m., the driver was headed southbound on 390 between Chili Avenue and the Buffalo Road overpass when the incident happened.
"He heard a loud popping sound and looked in his window and saw a hole in the window. A short time after the window shattered, he exited the vehicle and called 911."
The driver was not injured. I-390 was closed in both directions in that area until around 3pm.
Besides deputies, State Police, Gates and Greece Police and the FBI are all involved in the investigation. Helfer says authorities cannot confirm it was definitely a bullet, but for now, they will treat it that way. A similar incident was reported in Greece last week, but no significant evidence was found, and Helfer says no connection is being made right now to this incident.
Police have been talking to people in the area where the incident happened on Thursday to see if they heard or saw anything unusual.
