This is an exciting day for us, as we launch Connections on WEOS, Finger Lakes Public Radio, operated out of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva. Listeners can join us on 89.5 in the Finger Lakes region!
12 noon: Mark Gearan, president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges and chairman of the state gaming commission
1pm: Following the proposals and plans for new casinos, from Rochester to the Finger Lakes
At noon, we speak to the president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Mark Gearan, who happens to be the new head of the New York Gaming Commission. Gearan has a long history of public service, from leading the Peace Corps to working for the Clinton White House. We'll talk to him about the future of casino gaming in New York. We'll also talk about the value of public service, and the problem of loan debt for many graduating students. (Hobart and William Smith now tops $60,000 annually.)
At 1pm, we broaden our discussion of casinos. Is a casino coming to the small town of Tyre? The Wilmot family is working on that project, and Jimmy Wilmot joins us live. We'll also hear from stakeholders in the debate about a new casino in the Rochester area, and we'll find out why some people oppose the Wilmots in Tyre.
