Defending PGA Champion Rory McIlroy visited Rochester for the first time on Monday to play on Oak Hill Country Club's East Course. It was part of the 95th PGA Championship Media Day.

"I really like the golf course,” says McIlroy, after he shot a 67 during a practice round. “When I think of the PGA Championship, I think of golf courses like this: big trees, tree lines. [It’s] just a typical, classic, old-style golf course."

Although the Northern Irishman has had a tough golf year, McIlroy says he looks forward to defending his PGA title this fall at Oak Hill.

"If I keep hitting the ball the way I know I can, and hold a few puts, I hope to be in the winning circle again.”

McIlroy attended an unveiling ceremony of a display in his honor at the grand opening of the Rochester Museum and Science Center's PGA Championship History Exhibit. The exhibit is a collection of historic golf memorabilia highlighting the tradition of the PGA Championship and its past title holders.

McIlroy says he hopes to spend time enjoying some of the attractions in Rochester during his stay for the tournament.

The PGA Championship at Oak Hill starts on August 5 and runs thru the 11th.

This is third time the Pittsford golf course is hosting the Championship.
