Police have made an arrest in the death of Larie Butler, charging 20-year old DeVante Lively with second degree murder.

Authorities identify Lively as an acquaintance of Butler’s – the same acquaintance they spoke of earlier this week who had stopped cooperating in the investigation into the East High School junior’s disappearance.

Butler’s mother Karen Snipes joined Irondequoit and Rochester Police officials at a Friday press conference announcing the arrest. “I’m glad they got him,” she said. “I need to know why he did this.”

Butler’s body was found Thursday in a pool in a backyard on Dorington Road in Irondequoit.

Irondequoit Police Chief Richard Boyan said he did not know of a motive for the killing, which investigators say happened in a home on Dorington Road.
