In anticipation of bitter cold temperatures this week, the Open Door Mission is under a Code Blue Alert.
It's issued when evening temperatures drop to 19 degrees or daytime temperatures fall to 9 degrees with or without a wind chill.
"We will not only house our 40 men, which is our regular housing, but we will also include more space for men to spend the night with us," said Assistant Director of Development, Christopher Scribani.
He says during a Code Blue event, the dining hall at the Mission's Samaritan House is converted into a makeshift sleep area.
He says they can sleep 70 men in the building safely.
Scribani says the cold conditions put extra demands on building utilities, supplies, and staff.
He says in addition to a monetary gift, donations of personal hygiene supplies, paper products, linens and cold weather clothing are always appreciated.
