New York Senator Chuck Schumer says he and other Democrats will fight any attempts to create a voucher system for Medicare recipients, as some Republicans in Congress have proposed.

Speaking on an AARP "Tele-Town Hall," Schumer said President Trump's nominees to head  Health and Human Services, and the Office of Management and Budget are trying to privatize Medicare.

"Now I know that when President Trump (was) campaigning, he said I am going to preserve Medicare, but we're a little worried because he's appointing people who want cut it, who will have all the say," he said.

Schumer went on to say that privatize means: end.

"What does privatization mean?  It means you’re at the mercy of the doctor, of the health care provider, of the hospital, of the insurance company above all.  And that is a very, very bad thing," he said.

Schumer is calling on people to contact their Senators and tell them they want people in the President's cabinet who will support Medicare.

He adds two other programs important to seniors are also under fire: Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act.
