The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is allocating $575,000 to start the final design phase of the Braddock Bay restoration project.
That according to New York Senator Charles Schumer, who says the money will be used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to complete the design of a preferred alternative for this project.
It’s part of a $9 million plan to combat invasive species, and rebuild a barrier beach on the bay’s east end to prevent sediment from blocking the navigation channel.
Schumer says that will make Braddock Bay more accessible for boating and fishing and also better protect the environment.
Schumer says he will continue pushing the EPA to provide the additional seven to nine million dollars needed to complete the project.
