Rochester Institute of Technology hosts its 10th annual Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival on Saturday.
The idea for the festival was created by school President Bill Destler, shortly after he joined the institution in 2007.
He says tens of thousands are expected attend.
"Four hundred different opportunities to see all the innovative and creative work here at RIT by students, faculty and staff. It's a lot of fun, a great event for kids. We expect about 35 thousand people to come again," he said.
Destler says the festival went from a pr move to an important intraschool activity.
"I felt originally that it would be a great public relations move in terms of the external community in terms of understanding what we do, but it turned out to be just as important internally. And now we all know what we're doing. And it's forced and encouraged collaboration across the disciplines. It's gotten people working together who never dreamed they could work together before," he said.
Imagine RIT kicks off around 8:30 with a health care app competition.
Destler says the winner gets a banjo from his personal collection.
The exhibits open and 10am and the festival runs until 5.
"I can guarantee you won't be able to see it all," Destler said.
