Local Vehicle Sales Post Another Strong Month

npr.org

Vehicle sales in the Rochester area are having a strong year so far.

The Rochester Auto Dealers Association says that sales of new vehicles in May topped 4700, and that was 18 percent above sales for the same month last year. And that comes after April's figures which were more than 16 percent higher than a year ago.

So far this year, local new vehicle sales are trending 8.5  percent over the same period in 2013.

The president of the association, Brad McAreavey  says  the year got off to a slow start, but he says lately auto sales have been very strong. He says there are a variety of factors that may be responsible for the increase in sales.

"The manufacturers are very aggressive with their marketing programs and their incentive programs. Interest rates continue to be very attractive for buyers so there's an affordability aspect to it that customers are continuing to take advantage of. "

Although the local auto association no longer reports used car sales because it feels the numbers it had been getting do not accurately reflect that market, McAreavey says they do believe that the local used car market is also doing well.
